Everyone expected China to be the Big Bad, but while China was busy with their own civil war, India, France, and Russia started gobbling up prime territory on the ocean floor. Stealth being the best gig in warfare, submarines are at the forefront of this unexpected conflict. Enter USS Jimmy Carter: America’s oldest attack submarine.
Being contrary, unorthodox, and good at pissing admirals off got Alex sentenced to a sub that was meant for the breakers. His crew is assembled of rejects and misfits no one else wants, from the cowardly XO to the drunk sonar tech. The Navy prefers them all on the sidelines, and no one expects them to matter. But sometimes even the U.S. Navy forgets that the enemy gets a vote.
So, when the boat sets sail to escort Convoy 57 though an unimportant patch of the Indian Ocean, Alex anticipates another dull milk run. Not battle no one can win. Missiles start raining down, and their boring escort becomes an all-out firestorm. Now, Alex and USS Jimmy Carter are all that stand between thousands of civilian refugees and an enemy armada. One ancient submarine against dozens of enemies makes for terrible odds...and even victory might end in death for Alex’s crew of rejects.
